Review: All Her Lies by Matt McGregor

★★★☆☆ Review: First, I would like to thank Inkubator Books for providing me with a free advanced reader copy of this book. This is my honest review. Fiction or rehearsal? Taking a job on a homestead owned by a thriller author and her husband seems like the ideal fresh start for Brie, who is escaping a controlling relationship. But being barred from using internet-enabled devices is unsettling, and is the author contemplating new twists for her next novel, or something more sinister? Brie’s entanglement in the couple’s lives leaves her questioning who can be trusted. All Her Lies starts out strong, and I quickly became engrossed in the plot. Brie is an unlikeable protagonist, but it’s hard not to root for her. As the novel progressed, though, I began to lose interest. Not only was the romantic subplot rushed and unbelievable, but the twists began to feel overdone. The story has good bones but lacks depth. Audience : adult Trigger warnings : violence Recommend...

Review:

First, I would like to thank the author and Happily Booked PR for providing me with a free advanced review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

A sweet, slightly steamy Christmas novella

Originally written as an extended epilogue for Broken Promises, Christmas Promises continues Luke and Lucy’s second-chance love story for their first Christmas together. Broken Promises should be read first, but this novella could be enjoyed as a standalone for those looking for an uplifting, quick holiday read.

Second-chance romance is one of my favorite tropes, and Broken Promises set up Luke and Lucy’s story as an insta-love reconnection between two lovers who broke up ten years prior. Now, Luke is continuing to lavish Lucy with all the love she has been deprived of over the past decade by setting up a sweet and thoughtful advent calendar of Christmas gifts. He pampers her and is unashamed to bare his deep feelings–even those he harbored all those years they were apart. I really enjoyed reading all of the ways he spoiled her leading up to Christmas!

Audience: adult
Trigger warnings: none
Recommended for fans of: holiday romance novella, Christmas, small-town, second chance

Publisher's Synopsis:

After ten years apart, Luke and Lucy are finally spending their first Christmas together. The occasion is already joyous, but Luke is determined to make it the most special year ever. And he has come up with a plan to make it happen.

For the next twelve days, he will give Lucy a present each day. Some will remind them of the past they share, while others will help them build new memories together. Either way, he intends to cherish every moment they spend by each other’s side.

His plan includes a few key things: gathering the entire family, flying Lucy’s best friend to Port-Cartier, and finding the perfect ring to symbolize the start of a new chapter in their lives together. But, by the time Christmas rolls around, Lucy has a surprise of her own to share.
