“We get a choice. A few soul-level mates, if we’re lucky throughout our lifetime, and it’s up to us to choose which ones fit best. Sometimes, it’s purely friendship. Other times, it’s purely lust and attraction that holds a connection in place. But sometimes, you get both. Sometimes, you get the heat and the heart. The friendship and the chemistry.” (p. 95, Kindle Unlimited edition)

An atmospheric, magical winter solstice romance
Gray hasn’t dated anyone since his breakup two years ago, but when he sees Aurora, he is instantly drawn to her. Aurora thinks he might be the one–after all, she has known for many years that she will meet the love of her life this December by winter solstice. Gray may be a disgraced baseball star, but his career isn’t finished–he has no plans to stay in Maine. What if the prophecy guarantees that she will meet her soulmate, but not that her feelings will be reciprocated?
I love the touch of magic in this winter novella. Between Tash’s matchmaking and Aurora’s palm reading, the fortune-teller vibes add to the atmospheric setting. The instalust between Aurora and Gray is really well-written, and Savannah Peachwood and Tor Thom did a great job in their duet narration. Tor Thom’s voice is strikingly deep–a perfect casting for Grey’s character. While December Midnights is a standalone, I’d love to read a series of novellas set around this small coastal town.
Audience: adult
Trigger warnings: loss of parents

Publisher's Synopsis:
This is
my December. I’m not being naive or overly optimistic. I have it on good authority that this year, I will meet my soulmate and fall madly in love. The matchmaker who raised me said that it’ll happen by this Winter’s Solstice. Merry Christmas to me, right?
Wrong.
Because the man who just slid into my kitchen at midnight, unarmed me with his charming smile, and lit me up while licking frosting from my fingers is the newest investor in The TimeKeeper Inn. Gray Turner, the disgraced professional baseball player, wants to renovate and take over the place I call home.
There’s no way that he could possibly be “the one,” even if I do happen to feel some kind of magic every time he’s near. I’ll ignore the fact that his gruff and stoic demeanor melts away only for me. I have to remind myself that I need to keep my heart open for my soulmate because Gray isn't staying. I want that forever kind of love. But what if forever isn’t part of our plan?
What if soulmate-level love is just for the holidays?
